I was one of the two scenic artists for The Importance of Being Earnest. I worked specifically on painting the floor for this show. The elevation above was what we were given as well as bought colors. First we lined out the floor, the panels, and the center medallion. We originally began lining the floor measuring each panel and putting down a chalk line but once we got to the medallion the panels were uneven. So we began again by cutting a piece of luan as a template and used sharpies for lining and got even panels. We then took the four colors that the panels comprised of and painted each panel in a variance of each color and length. Based on a colors end point would be where one panel ended and the next began getting the horizontal lines separating each panel. Next was the wood grain on each panel which was accomplished by a chip brush. We then painted the medallion by measuring each petal and using a compass for the circle. Lastly we added a wash to the floor and a gold outline.
